John Harry Cockerton was born in Cheveley on 26th July 1919,(Newmarket Q3-1919 3B:639), baptised in Cheveley 1924 and confirmed 8th March 1933, son of Frederick George and Rose Hannah Ellen COCKERTON (née BUCKLE).

In the 1939 register at Broomstick, Cheveley were his father Fred G [3-11-1871] retired farm labourer; his mother Rose H [25-12-1876] and brother Robert G [24-5-1911] a motor engineer.


He is recorded in "Battalion at War -Singapore 1942" by Michael Moore.
He was killed in action on Bradell Road, Singapore the day before the surrender to the Japanese.
